How to Serve in Tennis: Tennis ball
throw, ball lift or toss?
I have already been teaching
for several years now and I have lost
count how frequent players of all levels have come to me with the
hated tennis ball toss difficulty.
Alright let us consider the
key phrases â??throwâ?? and â??tossâ??, while
being grammatically accurate, they could suggest a raw, quick and hit-or-miss
motion.
In my opinion the word
â??placementâ?? results in a far more precise
description and leads the player to slow down for much more accuracy and
reliability.
Okay, so what exactly is
accurate? The tennis ball has to be positioned in a
place in which the racquet can simply discover the tennis ball. The player
should not have
to call up a taxi cab to strike the ball!
How you can attain accuracy
and reliability? Should you have a look at any Professional player
serving, you will recognize that their ball arm is across themselves whenever
they
place the ball, not pointing towards the net as many club players do. In other
words, the playerâ??s hips, shoulder area and trunk area are roughly 45 degrees
to
the net and base line when they’re placing the ball, not 90 degrees.
Also observe that the arm is
completely extended whenever they
launch the tennis ball following a slow-moving arm raise.
Most of essential though, see
the arc (ellipse) on
the tennis ball when it’s released. You will observe the tennis ball coming
back to towards the
player. (Laterally, NOT front to back!)
The exercise I personally use
to make this happen is not rocket science. Making use of
soft tennis balls stand your student near to a wall so they need to place their
tennis ball
arm to the side. Inform them to position the tennis ball so it comes down on
their
forehead. From this point they may discover the tennis ball much more
effortlessly and then
hit flat or slice serves.
For topspin
serves inform them to land the tennis ball on the back of their head and hit a
slice
serve motion. They are going to naturally strike a topspin serve without having
noticing it!
Do this, it will do the job
and it’s really a great deal of fun. Ensure you use soft tennis balls
though!
Concerning tennis ball elevation control, simply employ
the following
progression, that is to trap the tennis ball up against the wall structure or
fencing using the
racquet at full stretch.
